Chapter 28

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail

[Quick Transmigration]

Ruan Yao woke up in a sea of darkness.

At first, he thought he had gone blind, as his vision was engulfed in total darkness, not even a finger in sight. Ruan Yao trembled as he called out to the system "System! Where are you?"

Not only could he not see, but he couldn’t move a single finger either.

The system tried to soothe him in a gentle tone within his consciousness: "It's okay, it's okay, I'm here. Your body just has some aftereffects from inhaling ether"

Heaven knows how the mechanical voice could make someone think of the word "reliable"

Only then did Ruan Yao feel less frantic, slowly realizing that it was Wen Siyan who had tied a black cloth in front of his eyes.

The young boy lay disheveled on a large bed, with the collar of his shirt unbuttoned, revealing a small portion of his pale collarbone that had been rubbed red. His small face, which was already delicate, looked even weaker and more pitiful with the two-finger wide black cloth covering it.

Wen Siyan must have been too confident in his fighting abilities, as he hadn’t even tied his hands, nor was he watching him. He just left Ruan Yao to sleep in the empty room.

The air was filled with a faint citrus-scented home fragrance.

Ruan Yao lay there for a while, waiting for the drug's effects to wear off. Finally, when he could move, he hurriedly took off the cloth from his eyes.

The whole room was dark, with thick velvet curtains covering the windows so tightly that not a single ray of light could come through. Ruan Yao’s fingers trembled as he fumbled for the edge of the bed and sat up.

His legs were still unstable, and he staggered as he tried to walk.

Ruan Yao didn’t know how long he had been unconscious. Now, he had to figure out how to escape first, and then call the police.

“System, the mission only said to find the real culprit and stop him, right?” Ruan Yao asked.

The system blinked its light: “Yes”

Ruan Yao licked his dry lips and stepped barefoot onto the cold floor: “Then I can just send him to prison, right?”

He didn’t dare turn on the lights, fearing it would attract someone.

Carefully walking to the bedroom door, Ruan Yao took a deep breath and gently grasped the doorknob.

The metal sphere felt cool in his palm, calming his chaotic heart.

The system was a bit worried “Host, you must be careful”

Whenever it came to such dangerous moments, the system rarely experienced the kind of frustration that machines shouldn’t have. It resented not being at a higher level, unable to use higher permissions to help the host.

Most of the time, it seemed to only be responsible for giving the host a simple introduction to the mission, then watching the host frown in frustration over it.

If only it could be more useful. The system felt a small, disappointed throb in its mechanical heart.

He hoped Wen Siyan wasn’t there. Ruan Yao closed his eyes and silently prayed.

But when things go wrong, even drinking cold water gets stuck in your teeth. Ruan Yao distinctly felt that his hand hadn’t even moved, yet the doorknob in his hand turned by itself.

The hard, round metal pressed against his soft palm, almost as if it had a life of its own.

There was an inexplicable sense of intimacy.

Ruan Yao suddenly jolted, unleashing an unprecedented strength that pressed his entire body against the door.

The door, which had been slightly ajar, was forcefully slammed shut with a loud 'bang' reverberating sharply in the dim, quiet room.

The person outside seemed a little surprised, and the movement of pushing the door stopped.

Ruan Yao let out a sigh of relief.

"You’re awake" The man’s voice, muffled through the door, sounded unclear.

Ruan Yao leaned against the door, his gaze fixed tightly on the metal doorknob that glimmered faintly in the darkness.

"Let me go"

His throat was so dry it felt like it might tear, and every word he spoke carried a sharp pain.

The man’s voice was muffled, as though he was laughing: "Yao Yao, how naive"

So cute.

Ruan Yao’s body tingled, biting the tip of his tongue to suppress the urge to vomit as he muttered "I promise I won’t say anything, let’s just pretend this never happened"

"I keep my word" Bull, once I get out, I’ll have you arrested.

The man paused for two seconds, his tone indulgent yet helpless: "Alright"

Hmm? Was it really that simple?

Ruan Yao questioned "Are you serious? Don’t lie to me"

The gold-rimmed glasses caught a faint gleam under the light: "Yes, I’m not lying"

"Swear it!"

Ruan Yao tried to raise his voice slightly, trembling as he used his thin shoulder to push against the door.

The man’s lips curved upward, the smile becoming more pronounced. On a face often praised by his colleagues as flawless, there was a hint of playful teasing, as if he were an adult amusing a small animal: "I swear, if I’m lying, I’ll die"

He said it so lightly, as if death meant nothing to him at all.

Ruan Yao relaxed his brow slightly, still carrying a hint of hesitation on his face.

But his strength weakened just a little.

The man didn’t rush to push the door open. With a gentle smile, he patiently waited for Ruan Yao to open it himself, as if he were a tolerant parent letting a temperamental child act out.

In reality, even if Ruan Yao used all his strength, it would still be no match for his.

"I’ve already sworn, Yao Yao. It’s best if you come out on your own"

"Children who lie will be punished, you know"

Ruan Yao instinctively shivered, not wanting to know what the pervert meant by "punishment"

"Stop standing by the door! I don’t want to see you"

He made his demand with a twisted, almost frantic temper, as though he were the only hostage in the world who could argue with their kidnapper.

Knowing full well that Ruan Yao couldn’t see, Wen Siyan raised both hands, his narrow eyes curving into a smile as his tone remained light: "Alright, alright"

Ruan Yao held his breath and cautiously opened the door.

It seemed that there was no movement outside after all.

Opening the door revealed a wide corridor, and through the carved railing, Ruan Yao could see the tidy, spacious lobby on the first floor.

No one.

Ruan Yao thought to himself that he was way too easy to deceive. He couldn’t wait to return to school and report to the police.

Wen Siyan didn’t stop him, and the man seemed to disappear in an instant. In the large house, Ruan Yao could only hear his own breathing.

The TV was on but only displaying a colorful homepage, and the coffee table was scattered with a collection of photos. A laptop had its screen blackened from long disuse.

There was even a cup of tea still steaming gently.

Ruan Yao stepped carefully on the soft, plush carpet, trembling as he grasped the black metal railing. The aftereffects of the drugs left him unsteady even after walking a short distance.

The front door was right in front of him, yet he sensed something was wrong.

The boy paused, suddenly turning around, and saw the man, dressed in an expensive suit, standing just a step behind him.

"Ah, quick reflexes" the man shrugged and openly returned a syringe to his pocket in front of Ruan Yao.

Ruan Yao immediately understood where that strange sensation had come from.

With Wen Siyan’s cunning nature, there was no way he would let him off so easily.

"Wen Siyan, what exactly do you want to do? Kill me?" Ruan Yao’s forehead broke out in a cold sweat, and the tips of his dark eyelashes were glistening with a thin layer of tears. "I don’t remember offending you"

Wen Siyan pouted, looking a little hurt. "I’ve already told you I like you. I won’t kill you"

Ruan Yao was being cornered by him, and he had to retreat. "Then Yang Xiyu..."

Wen Siyan’s expression turned cold. "Oh, you’re talking about him? He was a pervert"

I think you're the one who’s the pervert.

Wen Siyan sighed and spread his hands. "I’m protecting you. You wouldn’t want to know what that deceased Yang did"

Though the man was nearly thirty, his smile carried a childlike cruelty, and human life seemed to mean nothing to him, as if it were just an insect crushed out of curiosity by a child.

Unexpectedly, he reached out and grabbed Ruan Yao’s cold wrist from fear, pressing him onto the couch as if showing off. "I’m going to let Yao Yao watch a good show"

As he spoke, he leaned in closely. Ruan Yao quickly turned his head away.

That horrible feeling, like being touched by a snake’s tongue, returned.

As soon as the "good show" was mentioned, the man became visibly pleased, not caring that Ruan Yao ignored him. He grabbed the remote and casually pressed a few buttons, and the TV screen switched to high-definition footage.

It was a recording.

Ruan Yao didn’t want to watch, but his curiosity got the better of him, and he couldn’t help but sneak a glance.

This glance made Ruan Yao sit up straight in shock.

It was a scene captured from a surveillance video, split into two small screens. On one side was Chu Lingyi, his face cold and terrifying, and on the other was Lin Xuan, equally grim.

They seemed to be searching for something urgently. Ruan Yao had never seen them in such a panicked state.

"Don’t hurt them!" Ruan Yao’s mind was flooded with a thousand curses. If something happened to the main characters, he could pack up and prepare to be unemployed.

"If you want revenge, you can take it out on me. The two of them don’t even have any real connection to you, do they?" Ruan Yao gripped the fabric of the couch tightly with one hand. Lin Xuan was a senior, and Chu Lingyi had only transferred this month. No matter how you looked at it, it was mostly his fault.

What should he do if something happened to these two because of him?

Ruan Yao had never thought about such complex matters before. In his panic, tears kept falling, and his voice had a soft, crying tone. His sweat-drenched black hair was in a disheveled mess, sticking to his pale cheek, and his eyes, which were red from crying, held a peach blossom-like tint at the corners.

"You might as well just kill me" After all, in this world, dying would only cause a little pain.

Ruan Yao was terrified, his slender fingers clenched tightly, turning pale like cold jade.

Even his water-red lips, which he had bitten, showed a trace of fresh blood.

Wen Siyan looked down at him, carefully scrutinizing him. His narrow eyes were filled with a cold, inorganic grayish tint, and Ruan Yao felt like he was being stared at by a snake.

Wen Siyan gently wiped the blood from Ruan Yao’s lips with his fingertip.

"Don’t hurt yourself, Yao Yao" He sighed deeply, looking helpless. "This will make things difficult for me"

"I just want to play a game with you, Yao Yao"

He pinched Ruan Yao’s cheek, his smile as gentle as a clear breeze under the moon, like a proper gentleman. "Choose one, Yao Yao. Which one do you want?"

"The other one will die"

"I..."

"There’s no option to save both. If you can’t choose, we’ll just kill both of them"

Wen Siyan’s tone was soft and casual, as though he were simply talking about a withered flower by the roadside.
