Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail
[Quick Transmigration]
That rainy night's strange events ended abruptly and harshly with Aunt Zhang being sent to a sanatorium after losing her sanity.
On the surface, everyone claimed Aunt Zhang had hallucinated, but each person's face was shrouded in a shadow of unease that refused to dissipate.
As long as Gu Rongzhang's killer remained at large, the suffocating sense of danger like an ever-present threat of being killed would linger in every corner of the mansion, tightening its grip on everyone's throats with each passing day.
Not long after Gu Jin discovered Ruan Yao that day, Gu Rongming arrived in haste.
Ruan Yao, clutching the thin shawl around him nervously, feared his true identity might be exposed.
Gu Jin noticed his trembling and assumed he was still scared. He took off his suit jacket and draped it over Ruan Yao's shoulders.
Gu Rongming, clearly anxious and struggling to suppress his emotions, coughed into his clenched fist several times. His pale face flushed with a sickly red as he asked, "What's wrong with Sister-in-law?"
Gu Jin, dressed only in a shirt underneath, his honey-colored muscles tightly wrapped in fabric, subtly flaunted his well-toned physique. He held Ruan Yao, wrapped in his jacket, in his arms.
From Gu Rongming's perspective, he could only see Ruan Yao's disheveled hair cascading from the crook of Gu Jin's arm, his head buried in Gu Jin's chest with just the tip of a snow-white ear visible.
Ruan Yao's jade-like legs, marked with faint kiss traces, hung limply. Gu Jin, as if provoking Gu Rongming, kissed the soft pink hue of Ruan Yao's knees right in front of him.
Ruan Yao, his vision obscured, was unaware he was being taken advantage of. His soft voice emerged muffled from beneath the jacket. "I... I'm fine."
"Ah, just ran into a sneaky rat" Gu Jin said coldly, holding the person in his arms. He directed a mocking smile at his uncle. The fox-like sharpness in his eyes, so reminiscent of his late father, betrayed his cunning.
In a voice loud enough for everyone present to hear, he said casually, "That's why I believe only a fully capable family head can protect the Gu family. Otherwise, by the time some people arrive, it'll already be too late."
Gu Rongming's pale complexion turned even colder.
Ruan Yao, his mind muddled, faintly sensed the tension in the air. He struggled briefly, but all ten of his fingers were forced into Gu Jin's grasp with an almost coercive grip.
Ruan Yao was too light. Holding him was like catching a falling petal.
"Whether it's the Gu family or anything else" Gu Jin said, lowering his voice while glancing at Ruan Yao's blushing ear tip with satisfaction, "if you're late, there's no place for you anymore."
He leaned closer, deliberately provoking Ruan Yao, whose ears turned an even deeper shade of red.
Tsk, Gu Jin thought. If he wore earrings, he’d look stunning.
Since he was already wearing a dress, why not go all out and perfect the look?
Gu Jin cast a disdainful sidelong glance at Gu Rongming. Meanwhile, the beauty in his arms grew restless again, trying to pull the jacket off.
Gu Jin threatened in a low voice, "If you dare move again, I'll let them see that their 'beautiful madam' is actually just a deceitful man."
The words had the desired effect. Ruan Yao froze entirely and, after some hesitation, obediently leaned against Gu Jin's chest. It was the first time since Gu Jin's return to the Gu family that Ruan Yao had been so compliant.
A strange sense of satisfaction tugged at Gu Jin's lips.
He recalled a pair of pigeon-blood ruby earrings he’d received as a coming-of-age gift, said to be worth a fortune. They’d look magnificent on Ruan Yao’s ears, wouldn’t they?
Since coming of age, no one had dared mock Gu Rongming, let alone blatantly snatch what belonged to him right in front of him.
It was a slap in the face.
The veins on the back of Gu Rongming’s hand bulged as it rested on the back of the mahogany chair. The sound of his gritting teeth was almost audible.
"Qi Ren."
Gu Rongming’s deep, abyss-like black eyes revealed no end. Even his long-serving secretary couldn’t help but shudder.
"Is the evidence from the police prepared?"
The man in black traditional attire closed his eyes. Though his composure seemed unshaken, only he knew the overwhelming rage blazing inside him.
His neatly bound long hair brushed against his elegantly chiseled cheek. Gu Rongming’s pale lips curled into a sinister smile. "I want Gu Jin and that sneaky rat wiped off the face of this earth."
Meanwhile, Gu Jin encountered a small incident while carrying Ruan Yao back.
The old butler, who had always maintained a good relationship with Gu Jin, nearly had a heart attack upon seeing his young master return with a delicate beauty in his arms. "Young Master, this... this..."
Out of respect for the elderly, Gu Jin softened his usually roguish tone. "Oh, her? She’s my wife."
The butler wiped his forehead nervously. "But, Young Master, I haven’t heard anything about you getting married?"
Gu Jin quickly dropped the pretense, his face souring. "Huh? Who hasn’t heard? If not now, he’ll be my wife in the future. Grandpa just needs to give us his blessing."
The butler, squinting his aged eyes at the two, finally beamed sincerely. "The young master and young madam do make a perfect match. I believe even the late master would be delighted to see this."
If that old man knew, he’d probably jump straight out of his coffin.
Though Ruan Yao couldn’t see, he could hear perfectly well. He endured Gu Jin’s nonsense, his entire body burning with embarrassment.
When Gu Jin finally set him down, Ruan Yao immediately flung off the suffocating jacket, coughing softly. A light sheen of moisture coated his amber eyes.
Gu Jin’s gaze darkened. He suddenly felt a possessive urge to wrap Ruan Yao entirely in the jacket, unwilling to let even an inch of his skin be exposed to others.
Ruan Yao, struggling to breathe, flushed a delicate pink. His lips, bitten until they glistened, tangled with a stray lock of dark hair.
Gu Jin carried Ruan Yao straight to his bedroom. Kneeling dazedly on the soft bed, Ruan Yao felt the mattress sink beneath his knees, triggering memories of being pinned and bullied by the perverted man before him.
Instinctively, Ruan Yao tried to escape, but Gu Jin swiftly restrained him.
"Where do you think you're going?" Gu Jin's voice turned husky, his dark eyes filled with a dangerous gleam as he gazed at Ruan Yao. "I broke ties with my uncle for you. Aren’t you going to thank me?"
"I'm really heartbroken, Ruan Yao."
Gu Jin pressed both hands on the bed, his body looming over Ruan Yao entirely.
Ruan Yao pushed against him with some resentment. "You and your uncle didn’t get along in the first place."
Don’t even think about blaming him for this.
Gu Jin’s attention, however, went to something peculiar. "Uncle? You call him that so affectionately."
With an odd expression, he pinched Ruan Yao’s cheek. "You’re not actually thinking of yourself as my stepmother, are you?"
"What, you want me to call you Mom so badly?"
Lowering his head, Gu Jin stared thoughtfully at the slightly swollen red mark on Ruan Yao’s chest, a mischievous smile spreading across his lips. "Well, I wouldn’t say no to that."
Ruan Yao, feeling completely overpowered, looked up with tears in his eyes, his long, dark lashes wet and fluttering like a trapped butterfly struggling in a net.
"I'm not. Let me go."
Gu Jin was doing this on purpose. He watched Ruan Yao push him away with a mix of hatred and helplessness, his lips curling into a faint, smug smirk. "That won’t do. Since you’re calling him uncle, you have to be part of the family, don’t you?"
He leaned down and bit the plump bead of Ruan Yao’s lip, licking away the tiny drop of blood that seeped out with his tongue. "Here’s the deal: you be my wife. You can still call him uncle. What’s the difference?"
Ruan Yao didn’t want to be anyone’s wife.
He started crying out of anger and pain, his lips stinging while his chest ached from being bullied too harshly.
Gu Jin always caused him pain.
And he always said the most shameless things.
Tears hung precariously from Ruan Yao’s long lashes, his sweet voice laced with grievance like sticky rice dumplings. "Just let me go. I won’t provoke you anymore."
"Provoke?" Gu Jin, speaking leisurely, lifted a strand of Ruan Yao’s hair and sniffed it, catching a faint floral scent.
"That’s not an option."
"How about this," Gu Jin whispered, leaning intimately close to his nominal stepmother. He grazed Ruan Yao’s crystalline earlobe with his sharp canine tooth, feeling the shivers running through the body beneath him. His smile turned wicked. "You let me feel good this once, and we’ll call it even for me saving you. Deal?"
Ruan Yao wanted to refuse, but as soon as the syllable for "no" left his mouth, it was sealed by Gu Jin’s kiss.
"Stepmom doesn’t get to say no," Gu Jin murmured. "That would really break the child’s heart, wouldn’t it?"
In his mind, Ruan Yao fumed. Shameless! The man was clearly older than him by a few years!
Ruan Yao was inexperienced in these matters. Gu Jin barely brushed against his thigh when tears began streaming down his face, drenching it entirely.
"If you touch me, I’ll…" Ruan Yao stammered, desperately trying to recall some fierce villain lines. "I’ll haunt you even as a ghost!"
Gu Jin’s lips curved into an odd smile.
"That works too," he replied.
Ruan Yao had no way to deal with Gu Jin. Sweet talk or harsh threats—nothing worked. He could only watch helplessly as a shadow of doom loomed closer.
Then, he suddenly remembered the electric shock device he had exchanged for before. He hadn’t used it yet.
Gu Jin’s lips spread into a grin, revealing sharp canine teeth. "You’d better never let me go in this lifetime."
Ruan Yao’s entire body was like flawless snow, smooth and pure, trembling silently with each breath, resembling gentle rolling hills.
Set against a pitch-black background, he looked like a small scoop of snow about to melt in the palm of a hand.
Biting his lip until it turned red, Ruan Yao cried, his eyes turning a deep crimson.
Gu Jin’s angular features, illuminated by slanted light, exuded a dangerous and cold allure. His eyes, however, burned with a passionate fire.
"Such an idiot. Can’t even fight back. You deserve to be bullied," Gu Jin muttered.
"You’re the one who deserves it," Ruan Yao snapped back.
The cool, delicate curve of his body slowly softened under Gu Jin’s fiery touch, melting into a small, bright pool of crimson. The air grew hotter as an intoxicating aroma intertwined with the rising tension.
Even his knuckles were caught in the silky trap of Ruan Yao’s black hair.
On a face painted with both despair and beauty, the wings of a black butterfly had been drenched and drooped.
In a daze, Gu Jin reached out, covering the trembling lashes with his palm.
This butterfly, in the end, had been captured by him.
Tears streaming down his face, Ruan Yao called out to the system for help, his eyes swollen red from crying. "System-bro, save me! This main lead is completely shameless!"
The little red light on the system’s head blinked frantically. Even through its mechanical tone, it sounded exasperated. "After deliberation, the system has decided that if the main lead attempts excessive behavior, necessary intervention will occur!"
Ruan Yao puffed up in anger like a pufferfish. "What’s not excessive about this?!"
The system faltered. "According to headquarters’ regulations, only insertion counts as excessive."
Just as Gu Jin, rare in his pity, stroked Ruan Yao’s sweat-damp hair, he uttered the timeless line: "I’ll just rub against you. I won’t go in."
System: "…Maybe that’s what an 80% affection level looks like."
Ruan Yao: "…I’d rather not, thanks."
