Chapter 6

Ruan Yao sat in the homeroom teacher’s office, lowering his long eyelashes while quietly sipping a little bit of honey water.

His thin shoulders were covered by a woolen blanket. His slender figure wrapped in the blanket made him look even more pitiful.

Across from the tea table sat his homeroom teacher, Wen Siyan, a friendly young man with gold-rimmed glasses and a white shirt.

"Ruan, the teacher heard from other students that you went back to the fire site to save someone" said Wen Siyan in a gentle voice that reflected his name, his calm and polite aura radiating from him.

Ruan Yao tried to taste the honey on the tip of his tongue, then slowly said, "No, I just went back to get my things."

He lifted his gaze and looked at his young and friendly homeroom teacher, his glassy eyes reflecting the beautiful sunlight: "The teacher won't be involved in this, right?"

At school, Ruan Yao wasn’t exactly a troublemaker who opposed everyone. The only person he truly liked to tease was Chu Lingyi.

To many who didn’t know the situation, Ruan Yao appeared to be a tall flower, difficult to approach.

But whenever dealing with Chu Lingyi, this flower would suddenly grow sharp thorns.

Teacher Wen sighed, but still smiled calmly: "I don't mean to criticize you, it's just that you should know that in extreme situations, the first thing you need to do is ensure your own safety. After all, you're still a child."

I’m not a child.

Ruan Yao muttered to himself, then lazily replied, "Alright."

Teacher Wen smiled while pulling out a plaster: "Good, then. The teacher just worries that you’re in danger. Has your face been treated by the school doctor?"

Ruan Yao paused for a moment, clearly unprepared for the change in topic from his homeroom teacher.

"Yes, it’s been treated" He scratched his cheek awkwardly, but accidentally touched the wound, making him wince in pain.

Ah, he even forgot that his face still had a wound. With a slightly flushed face, he accepted the plaster and awkwardly turned away: "Thank you."

Teacher Wen smiled softly behind his glasses: "Ruan, you’re actually a very gentle person, aren’t you?"

Ruan Yao almost dropped the plaster. Hey, hey, hey, don't judge people so casually. Ruan Yao felt as though a black line had appeared above his head.

The young man’s face, already soft like mochi, now had a light brown plaster on his cheek, making him look very striking.

As a result, when Ruan Yao walked from the office to his class, he could feel the strange and complex gazes of the people he passed.

The school forum exploded after a secretly taken photo.

A young man with pale skin walked out of the teacher's office with his hands in his pockets, a conspicuous plaster on his cheek, looking both pitiful and adorable.

— "The princess's face is injured."

— "Oh my God! Who dared to touch the princess's face? I will fight them!"

— "It seems he got hurt during the fire last night in Building 1."

— "My poor princess, he’s suffering so much qwq."

— "But the princess, even with the injury, seems even more beautiful, hehe."

— "I heard he got hurt trying to save someone."

— "Who’s the lucky one to be saved by the princess? They must have saved the world in their previous life."

Ruan Yao didn’t care about any of that; he was more worried about the sudden fire last night.

With a high school story that should not be complicated, a fire that threatens the main character’s safety should not happen. This could only mean that the world was already out of control. Ruan Yao had a bad feeling, was this story going to fall apart again?

As a demon with no weak powers, Ruan Yao had always ranked last in achievements at the bureau, and there was a reason for that.

It seemed like he was born with a bug that made the world fall apart. Wherever he appeared, there were always many events that exceeded the control of the storyline, eventually leading to a drastic change in the ending.

The system spoke in a small voice: "The headquarters has known about this since last night, and they have now sent a new side mission, which is to investigate the cause of the fire."

"Investigate...," Ruan Yao was stunned, "Are you saying this might not have been an accident, that someone intentionally set the fire?"

The system felt a little embarrassed because its level was too low, and many permissions couldn’t be used.

"Maybe" the system replied with a red face in the form of a small metal box in the sea of Ruan Yao’s consciousness, "And you canceled the restrictions last night, according to the rules, a random penalty will be applied to you."

Random penalty, is it a salary cut or a reduction in vacation time? Ruan Yao, who is already poor, wasn't afraid of anything. The worst that could happen was accumulating more debt in his empty wallet.

He casually waved his hand: "It’s probably just going to mean more work."

Now, the more important thing was the main mission.

As soon as he entered the class, Ruan Yao immediately saw a lot of people crowding around Chu Lingyi, speaking enthusiastically.

As soon as they saw Ruan Yao walk in, they quickly scattered like a flock of birds. After all, only a few people liked to interact with Ruan Yao. Most students only knew that Ruan Yao and Chu Lingyi didn’t get along, but they didn’t know that Ruan Yao secretly liked to tease Chu Lingyi.

Many still admired this outstanding transfer student.

"Ruan Yao, for this year’s opening ceremony, you and Chu Lingyi will lead the oath ceremony" a cute-faced boy approached Ruan Yao, showing the new announcement on the school’s official website.

The opening ceremony at Li Zhi School is usually held a month after school starts, where two students are chosen to lead the entire student body in taking the oath on stage.

Standing in front of thousands of students with Chu Lingyi to read an oath that no one would actually follow.

Ruan Yao’s face immediately turned displeased. He still had a wound on his face, his red lips tightly sealed, looking even gloomier: "Why him?"

Actually, in his heart, Ruan Yao knew that the student representatives were always the best students in the class. As a student representative, Chu Lingyi was a given, and Ruan Yao might have been chosen because of his family’s influence.

As an illegitimate child, Ruan’s father didn’t dare to openly bring Chu Lingyi home. Many people didn’t know the relationship between Chu Lingyi and Ruan Yao, and most assumed Chu Lingyi was just an extraordinary student accepted through a scholarship.

Ruan Yao made a very disdainful expression and said, "Who cares about being with him?"

The voice of a clear and distinct boy rang in Ruan Yao’s ears at this moment: "I think we are together, Ruan Yao." Oath together.

Ruan Yao was startled and turned to look at Chu Lingyi, who was sitting in front of him on the left. He tilted his head slightly and spoke expressionlessly.

He looked a bit sick and thin, and his dark eyebrows were sharper compared to his pale skin. Ruan Yao had an inexplicable illusion that he was becoming the target of a venomous snake.

"Anyway, you saved my life, didn’t you?" Chu Lingyi pursed his lips without smiling.

Ruan Yao looked around and said to him, "What nonsense are you talking about? Who saved you?"

"Wasn’t it you who went back to the dormitory yesterday?" Chu Lingyi lowered his voice so much that only the two of them could hear.

Ruan Yao didn’t know when Chu Lingyi had stood in front of him, and the shadow of the boy bending down completely trapped Ruan Yao inside.

The students around them, who didn’t know the truth, looked on with curious eyes from time to time.

Ruan Yao felt a bit embarrassed, and his cheeks turned slightly pink. "It wasn’t me! Who would save you? You were in danger, and I couldn’t even laugh."

What are you doing? Do you want to please me? Did I just give you a boring excuse? "Don’t be ridiculous."

Chu Lingyi chuckled: "Okay, I’m so easily fooled." Chu Lingyi withdrew his hand from Ruan Yao’s desk and walked back confidently.

Ruan Yao muttered angrily: "Something’s not right!"

From an angle he couldn’t see, Chu Lingyi’s lowered eyes were full of paranoia.

It’s you.

He took a deep breath, and the faint scent of peach blossoms from the young man seemed to linger at the tip of his nose. Exactly like that hot night, the scent was intoxicating.

If you clearly hate me so much, why did you go through the trouble of saving me? Chu Lingyi couldn't understand. I could only feel the wicked thoughts in my heart gradually being amplified and enlarged by the intoxicating scent.

I wanted to pinch his cheek hard, to pinch the bright red mark of a palm on that proud, beautiful face, making those bright eyes shed tears of despair and sadness, forcing him to cry, forcing him to tell the truth.

Chu Lingyi, what makes you so obsessed?

Vaguely, I felt like I was going to be swallowed by these wicked thoughts. I firmly grabbed a pen and without hesitation, stabbed the tip of the pen into my palm.

The sharp pain made me a little calmer, and I managed to free myself from these increasingly extreme thoughts.

How could you have such thoughts about someone who oppresses you?

"Student representative, congratulations," Yu Che, with fox-like eyes, smiled and approached.

Ruan Yao ignored him. Those beautifully shaped lips were tightly sealed as if angry. He looked like he was about to be angry because he had to stand on stage with Chu Lingyi.

At least Yu Che still had sharp eyes: "Don’t be angry, I have a way to prevent him from going on stage."

Ruan Yao glanced at him from the side, his thick and long eyelashes fluttering alluringly without him realizing it. "What can you do?"

Yu Che lowered his voice, his mouth almost touching Ruan Yao's face, and Ruan Yao moved away uncomfortably. This person always had many bad ideas and liked to stay close when speaking.

Yu Che whispered, "My father is involved in the pharmaceutical business, and they have a newly developed drug..."

After hearing what Yu Che said, Ruan Yao, the monster who had played the role of cannon fodder for thirty years, was also shocked.

The drug was too harsh.

Ruan Yao clicked his tongue and couldn’t help but sigh: "You humans are really amazing."

Yu Che didn’t realize the oddity in his words and laughed: "This is the first time you're complimenting me like this."

A glass ampoule entered Ruan Yao’s palm.

He deliberately lingered for a few more seconds. The boy's palm was as soft and tender as freshly baked tofu, seemingly possessing a magnetic force that made one want to keep playing with his smooth hand, even down to every fingertip.

Why were the tips of some people's fingers pink like flower buds?

Ruan Yao stared at the ampoule in his hand and didn’t realize he was being consumed.

He observed the colorless liquid for a while, then quietly said to the system: "I will never get involved with humans again in the future."
