My Days as a God in Ancient Times
Chu Tianze looked into his younger brother’s eyes and eventually chose to compromise for now.
He only said that from now on, there must be a check-up every month.
Once the surgery had a one hundred percent success rate, then there would be no need to go anymore.
"Alright!" Chu Qiuze knew how to buy time. They could talk about it again later.
With that settled, Chu Qiuze prepared to head to Dahan.
Chu Tianze still felt uneasy. "Take me there to see it."
"Gege!" Chu Qiuze could only resort to acting cute. Right now, he didn’t dare let his brother meet Lan An just yet.
His brother was too smart. He would definitely figure it out. It was better to wait until things were set in stone before coming clean.
"Ge, I’ve completed my first task, but the second one hasn’t been triggered yet!" Chu Qiuze, well-practiced in the art of coaxing, continued "Once the second task appears, I’ll bring you along. Who knows? I might even need your help then."
There was no winning against him. Chu Tianze sighed, waved him off, and let him go.
On the surface, he remained calm, but the moment his brother disappeared through the door, he felt a flicker of panic.
Forcing himself to stay composed, he pulled out his phone and started a video call.
Meanwhile, the moment Chu Qiuze arrived at the county office, he was met with the burning gazes of his admirers.
He had been missing for three days without a word. Some were worried that something had happened to their God, while others feared he might never return.
Lan An, upon seeing Chu Qiuze, finally felt the tension in his heart ease.
Over the past few days, he had even wondered if he had offended him somehow.
Just as the roomful of people was about to engage in a long-overdue conversation, Chu Qiuze’s phone suddenly rang.
He didn’t even need to think to know who it was. With a resigned expression, he said, "Everyone, quiet down for a moment. My brother’s calling. He just found out a few days ago that I came down to the mortal realm and tried to keep me from coming. I only managed to convince him today."
"Brother, I just got here" Chu Qiuze answered the call and immediately complained. "There’s really no danger here. Stop worrying."
"Show me the surroundings. And your friends."
This tone, just like a parent checking whether their child was in a relationship was way too much.
Left with no choice, Chu Qiuze turned the camera "This is Chen Cuozhi, my friend. The rest are the guards who help me with errands"
Chu Tianze nodded, greeted the guards, and asked them to take care of Chu Qiuze.
The guards smiled and responded in unison, "Of course, of course! Rest assured, Big Brother of the God!"
"God?" Chu Tianze raised an eyebrow. "Qiuze?"
Chu Qiuze nearly dug himself a hole to hide in. This was nothing short of public humiliation. "Ahem. Well, brother, if there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now."
"Wait" Chu Tianze had caught sight of a figure that flashed across the screen. "Where’s your prince?"
What did he mean by "your prince"?
Chu Qiuze’s face turned red. He had known his brother would figure it out sooner or later.
"Gege! just drop it" Then, in the blink of an eye, he ended the call before his brother could say another word.
Lan An, who had sharp ears and keen eyes, had also heard Chu Tianze’s words.
However, what puzzled him was that Chu Qiuze had introduced all his guards but had deliberately left him out.
He didn’t understand but chose not to ask.
Over the past few days that Chu Qiuze had been missing, Lan An had thought a lot. If all it took was a date, then he would give him one.
Once the initial greetings were done, Lan An dismissed everyone else. "Young Master Chu, when are you free?"
Chu Qiuze had never liked that form of address, but he decided not to correct it now. There was no rush.
"Hmm? What for? The disaster is under control, so I have time whenever"
"A date."
Those two light words nearly made Chu Qiuze burst out laughing. He figured this prince must have gone through some interesting mental gymnastics to arrive at this conclusion.
"Alright, you make the plans" It was a good chance to see how Yuhook County was recovering from the disaster and whether anything else needed improvement.
Before he could finish speaking, Chen Cuozhi, who had just left moments ago, rushed back in, looking flustered.
"Wangye, something terrible has happened" Chen Cuozhi's face was pale. "A plague has broken out in Rujing City."
"What? A plague?" Chu Qiuze was horrified. Famine could be handled over time, but plagues spread fast and had high mortality rates.
In this era, once a plague struck, if no doctor could cure it, the result would be an entire city wiped out.
This was no joke.
A mechanical voice suddenly chimed in: "Ding! Mission triggered, Plague. Save at least two-thirds of the infected to complete the mission."
Earlier, he had been looking forward to a new mission. Now, he wished it hadn’t come at all.
These were real people. This was no game.
Lan An frowned. "What exactly is the situation? Where did the news come from?"
Chen Cuozhi explained, "Some people escaped from Rujing City and returned to Yuhook County. The truth only came out when the city guards questioned them at the gate."
This was serious. Lan An pressed on, "What’s the current status in Rujing City?"
"We don’t know yet" Chen Cuozhi shook his head.
"The two who escaped were originally from Yuhook County. According to one of them, he had been feeling unwell a few days ago and went to the clinic, where he overheard two apprentices talking. Apparently, many people had caught some unknown illness and died within days."
"So it’s not confirmed to be a plague?" Lan An summoned two guards, instructing them to gather more information.
There was no need to investigate. Even if they couldn’t confirm it, Chu Qiuze already knew. Otherwise, the mission wouldn’t have triggered.
"Lan An" Chu Qiuze was more serious than ever. "Those two who escaped need to be quarantined immediately. Get a doctor to check them, and make sure to cover their mouths and noses during the examination. Any belongings, urine, or feces must not be disposed of carelessly. It’s best to burn them."
If they were infected, they could end up killing countless others. Lan An nodded and ordered the guards to handle it.
"Also, Wangye, notify the surrounding towns to lock down their cities and gather as many doctors as possible to head to Rujing City. The more people working on this, the faster we can find a cure."
Locking down cities was no small matter. Chen Cuozhi hesitated. "Isn’t this an overreaction when we’re still unsure?"
"If we wait until it spreads, it’ll be too late." Chu Qiuze’s tone sharpened.
That made sense. Lan An took out his command token and sent a team of guards to carry out the orders.
"How far is it from here to Rujing City?" Chu Qiuze asked.
Chen Cuozhi answered: "With a fast horse spurred on it takes two days to arrive"
Chu Qiuzhe had made up his mind. "Lan An send someone to notify Rujing City right away. Once any symptoms are found isolate and treat them. Also inform the citizens to maintain proper hygiene at all times. Ensure that all food at points of entry is cooked and do not drink raw water."
Thinking of modern epidemic prevention methods he continued: "During this period instruct the citizens to avoid going out as much as possible. All shops should cease operations to prevent contact with infected individuals and also collect additional supplies and medicines"
It is still unknown how this plague started and we can only take preventive measures in advance and arrange everything properly.
Lan An and Chen Cuozhi were both seeing him act with such decisive vigor for the first time. The way he arranged everything was so orderly that there was not a single flaw to be found.
Chu Qiuzhe did not know what the two were thinking. He was simply standing on the shoulders of giants. "Also send someone to guide me. I need to go to Rujing City."
When a plague breaks out it is nearly impossible for anyone to willingly enter a disaster zone. It is tantamount to signing up for death.
Historically emperors had dealt with plagues in two ways. A gentler method involved sending a few imperial physicians to treat those who could be cured and withdrawing if treatment was not possible.
A harsher method was to seal the city and let it fend for itself.
Both of them simultaneously realized that things might be more complicated than they appeared. Chen Cuozhi said: "God do you also have knowledge of plagues?"
Chu Qiuzhe shook his head. "I do not understand medicine. I must at least go and take a look to identify the pathogen. Perhaps our Immortal Realm has a cure"
He did not dare to say too much for ancient viruses were by no means fewer than modern ones.
"I will go with you" Lan An said with a measure of admiration for Chu Qiuzhe. "Your earlier arrangements have already been set in motion and before we reach Rujing City everything should be in order."
Chu Qiuzhe looked at Lan An. "Prince the source of the plague remains unknown. It is too dangerous for you to go. What if I cannot find a cure?"
"Are you not in danger?" Lan An retorted.
Chu Qiuzhe was momentarily at a loss for words. After a moment's thought he agreed that Lan An coming along would be acceptable. After all he is a Prince and things would be more convenient.
"Cuozhi" Lan An began to arrange the follow-up work. "We will set out early tomorrow. You stay here and wait until the new County Magistrate arrives to hand over responsibilities."
Chen Cuozhi accepted the order and asked: "What about General Lu?"
Speaking of the general the general had arrived.
"God where is God?" Before the person arrived the booming voice of General Lu was heard. "I heard outside that God had returned and I had to come and see him"
Chu Qiuzhe knew that this was undoubtedly the General responsible for escorting the disaster relief supplies.
Earlier Lan An had led troops to suppress bandits. The bandits had been dealt with yet the supplies had already been transferred.
Later it was this General Lu who led troops to retrieve them.
General Lu entered the room in a bold manner. He first saluted Lan An in a proper fashion and then quickly walked over to Chu Qiuzhe scrutinizing him from head to toe.
Chu Qiuzhe also looked over General Lu. He appeared to be in his twenties with a burly build and an air of menace around his brows. It was clear he was a military man.
"God" General Lu, bearing a look that suggested the Prince wanted to kill him, grabbed Chu Qiuzhe's shoulder and swayed him.
"I am Lu Ziye. I have already heard of Male God's heroic deeds. Here on behalf of the people I offer you my gratitude."
After speaking he did not wait for Chu Qiuzhe to react and immediately knelt down with a thud and performed three kowtows.
When he got up again his forehead was bright red.
Chu Qiuzhe smirked. This General Lu was indeed rather wild.
"General there is no need for formality. I have told you before that one should not kneel before me. I hope you will abide by that" Chu Qiuzhe said abandoning the thought of renaming General Lu.
"No need for thanks no need for thanks. I will listen to you" Lu Ziye sat down beside Male God and patted his shoulder. "If Male God has any orders in the future feel free to ask me."
"Lu Ziye!" Lan An said in a fierce and icy tone. "What about your discipline?"
That look made Lu Ziye instantly recall the time when he was whipped in the camp by the Prince and he dared not act recklessly again.
"Tomorrow you will set out with us" Lan An repeated Chu Qiuzhe's arrangements to Lu Ziye and in the process borrowed troops from him.
All the surrounding towns must be locked down. Without a show of military force it would be very difficult to accomplish this.
