Chapter 78

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail

[Quick Transmigration]

Ruan Yao sat in the interrogation room, restless and uneasy, clutching tightly at the hem of his hanging clothes.

The clock on the wall ticked away, second by second, as time continued to slip by.

Pale daylight streamed through the iron bars, forming a sharp, cold streak that illuminated his snow-white cheeks with a faintly translucent glow.

He looked almost like a delicate white jade statue, bathed in sacred light.

A disheveled man with long hair, bound in handcuffs, was escorted in by the police.

He had appeared lifeless before, but the moment he saw Ruan Yao, his gloomy eyes suddenly brightened from beneath his tangled hair. He desperately reached out his hands toward Ruan Yao

"Yaoyao! You came to see me"

His face was flushed with excitement, his delicate features tinged with red. Even the veins in his long, slender neck bulged visibly.

The metal cuffs on his wrists clattered noisily as he struggled, causing the police to hold him down with force, sternly ordering him to stop moving.

His wrists had been cut open by the sharp edges of the steel cuffs, leaving vivid crimson wounds.

Yet, he seemed completely numb to the pain, his burning gaze fixed unwaveringly on Ruan Yao.

Ruan Yao winced just from looking at him.

The agitated man was forced into the interrogation chair across from him. To prevent any sudden outbursts, the police remained in the observation room just beyond the wall, watching closely.

Ruan Yao dared not meet his gaze. His long lashes, dark like raven feathers, drooped as he hesitated before finally asking in a soft voice, "Why were you following me?"

Even though he was the victim, his voice remained delicate and meek, which only served to provoke an even stronger urge within the man to dominate him.

The unkempt man curled his lips into a twisted smile. "Because I like you"

Ruan Yao was a little afraid of him, but the fact that he was inside a police station gave him a sense of security. His brows furrowed slightly "I've never even met you before"

"How could you not have?" His words seemed to strike a nerve. The forced, friendly smile on his face instantly contorted into something feral and terrifying.

He slammed his handcuffs hard against the steel table, his eyes burning with rage as he glared at the oblivious beauty before him.

"I'm with you every day! How could you possibly not have seen me?"

Ruan Yao flinched in shock, his glassy, round eyes widening in panic as he stared at the man. He desperately tried to recall that face—one that, despite his current disheveled state, was still undeniably handsome.

A deep sense of unease crept up his spine. He racked his brain, replaying every interaction he'd had on set, but his mind was in knots at the most critical moment.

No matter how hard he tried, he had absolutely no recollection of this man.

"System… who is he?" Unable to figure it out, Ruan Yao turned to his system for help.

The system activated facial recognition mode, processing for a moment before finally scrambling to produce an answer just as the man was about to erupt again.

"He's the extra who played the waiter in the banquet scene!"

"You even had a line with him!"

Ruan Yao's mind suddenly cleared. His fingers twisted nervously together as he stammered "I remember now! You were the actor who played the waiter that day!"

"I… I even spoke to you" His tongue nearly tripped over itself, his nerves wound so tight that his eyes were on the verge of tearing up.

The man's expression finally softened. When he wasn’t acting crazy, he even looked somewhat refined. He gazed at Ruan Yao’s face with a lingering smile. “You really do remember me”

Ruan Yao quietly let out a breath of relief, cold sweat seeping into his palms as if he had just survived a disaster.

To be honest, he truly felt wronged.

It was only when the system mentioned it that he recalled where he had interacted with the man before.

Ning Yiwei had thrown a grand banquet at the Ning residence for Ning Zhen’s coming-of-age ceremony. When Ning Zhen was searching for Jiang Ze among the crowd, he accidentally bumped into a waiter holding a glass of champagne.

“I’m sorry”

“Young Master, be careful”

The entire conversation was no more than ten words, barely a passing encounter, yet the man before him remembered it so clearly.

An inexplicable chill ran down Ruan Yao’s spine. He thought to himself, the scene lasted no more than a minute, how could it lead to something this terrifying?

“What were you planning to do when you knocked on my door that day?” Ruan Yao couldn't help but imagine the worst. “Were you going to kill me?”

The man stared at Ruan Yao’s trembling eyelashes as if possessed. “How could I kill you? I wouldn’t even have enough time to love you, Yaoyao”

“I actually fell in love with you a long time ago. I was already there on your first day on set. Yaoyao, you are so beautiful” The man spoke slowly, as if recalling their first meeting was the most blissful thing in the world. His face carried an affectionate smile.

“After that, a voice in my head kept telling me to get closer to you, to make sure you remembered me, to leave at least some trace of myself in your life”

“It was that voice from the gods that made me realize what I wanted most in this life”

Ruan Yao’s nape prickled. The feeling of being watched from the shadows by a deranged person was suffocating.

“See? Now you do remember me, don’t you?”

Ruan Yao suddenly stood up. He couldn’t listen to this any longer. “I’m leaving”

If this weren’t the police station, he would have made sure this man regretted saying those words. Ruan Yao’s chest heaved with anger, and a deep flush stained his snow-white cheeks.

He turned his back to the man. The police officers in the observation room, noticing his movements, prepared to come in and take the man away.

“There will be others besides me!” The man stared at Ruan Yao’s panicked back, his lips curling wider and wider, his laughter growing more manic.

“Can you really guarantee that you won’t encounter someone even worse than me?”

“Those people will only be even more ruthless than I am”

Ruan Yao stopped in his tracks and turned around to glare at the man handcuffed to the table, his delicate face showing a rare trace of fierceness. “Go to hell”

A black Porsche silently pulled up in front of a high-end jewelry store in the city center.

Before the man in the back seat even stepped out, a diligent store attendant had already approached, ready to provide attentive service.

The attendant was a young woman in her early twenties. The moment she saw the refined and handsome man step out of the car in a suit, her face flushed involuntarily.

The man exuded an air of cold detachment, an untouchable flower on a high peak. His fair features carried a hint of androgyny, and a pair of elegant gold-rimmed glasses rested on his face.

When he spoke, his voice was emotionless, cold enough to send chills down one’s spine. “I’m here to order a pair of rings”

So he had someone special.

“What kind of rings are you looking for?”

Sheng Yirong lowered his gaze and carefully examined the dazzling array of expensive jewelry inside the glass display counter.

His eyes finally settled on a deep blue gemstone.

He stared at the gem, resting in a bed of red velvet, shining brilliantly.

Its color, as clear and mysterious as the deep sea, reminded him of the soft blue hair Ruan Yao once had, spreading over the pillow like a small ocean shimmering with starlight.

It would suit his skin well.

The man curled his fingers and lightly tapped the glass with his knuckle. "I'll take this one"

For years, Sheng Yirong had dominated the business world, a fearsome figure who struck terror into every competitor. It seemed that all the gentleness in his life had been reserved for Ruan Yao alone.

The young female store attendant stood to the side, watching the man’s cold and sharp features. She wondered if he was thinking about his beloved, as a faint trace of warmth softened his expression.

It was like watching a glacier slowly thaw, she thought.

"This is the finest aquamarine in our collection, sourced from Brazil. You have excellent taste, sir"

A true CEO straight out of a comic book, he immediately picked out the most expensive piece in the store.

"Your wife will surely be delighted"

Sheng Yirong simply stared at the brilliant blue gemstone, lost in thought.

"I hope so" His fingertips lingered on the surface of the gem, as if, through it, he were caressing the soft face of the young man.

Ruan Yao, far away on set, suddenly sneezed.

"Catching a cold?" Xie Tong, with ears sharper than a dog’s, immediately leaned in and pinched Ruan Yao’s sharp chin, frowning as he examined him closely.

These past few days, Xie Tong had been going out of his way to prove that he didn’t dislike Ruan Yao, showering him with warmth in various exaggerated ways.

Though his face remained perpetually disdainful, he was always attentive and arrived whenever needed.

Ruan Yao was so startled that he genuinely suspected someone had possessed Xie Tong’s body.

The system had to repeatedly assure him that this was a materialistic world before he could relax.

It wasn’t just Ruan Yao, everyone on set was equally bewildered.

Even Xie Tong’s team nervously asked him, "Bro, are we going to collaborate with Ruan Yao or something?"

Xie Tong’s face turned suspiciously red. "Not like it's out of the question"

The entire team was thrown into chaos.

This was exactly the look of a lovestruck maiden! Boss, wake up! Not long ago, you were complaining that Ruan Yao was just a low-tier nobody who embarrassed you!

Ruan Yao flailed a little, breaking free from Xie Tong’s grip. He deeply felt that something was wrong with Xie Tong and just wanted to stay far away from him.

"I’m fine"

Xie Tong raised an eyebrow, skeptical "Then why are you so distracted today? You even forgot your lines during filming just now. If that’s not being sick, then what is?"

Crossing his arms, the man’s tone turned sharp "If you don’t care, that’s your business. Just don’t slow down the film’s progress"

The movie had already entered its final stage of filming. In about a week, it would wrap up completely.

Lately, Xie Tong had been feeling inexplicably restless.

His time working with Ruan Yao was limited to this one project. Once filming ended, they would have nothing to do with each other anymore.

This looming separation brought an unfamiliar sense of unease that unsettled him.

"Will you come to the wrap party next week?" Xie Tong realized too late that he had spoken without thinking.

Awkwardly clearing his throat, he turned his head away, stiffly changing the subject.

The wrap party and Pei Xinan’s concert happened to be scheduled at different times.

Ruan Yao nodded.

"Of course I’ll be there"

A small flower bloomed in Xie Tong’s heart.
