Chapter 24

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail

[Quick Transmigration]

Yang Xiyu’s legs had completely turned to jelly. His face was streaked with tears and snot, and he looked completely disheveled.

His eyes, blurred by tears, stupidly followed the direction in which the black-clad figure had disappeared.

Chu Lingyi stood aside, showing no intention of helping him up.

He furrowed his brow, pondering over the identity of the black-clad figure.

The man was very alert and ran quickly, vanishing completely into the darkness before anyone could react.

In fact, it was after noticing the suspicious behavior of the black-clad figure and Yang Xiyu that he had decided to follow them.

There had been rumors circulating in the school recently about their class being targeted by some kind of terrifying pervert, and while Chu Lingyi didn't say anything, he had secretly been suspicious of the series of strange incidents occurring in the class.

Encountering Ruan Yao was completely unexpected.

The unlucky boy could only fumble around the stone tablet, trying to stand up, and he looked at Chu Lingyi gratefully. "Thanks, man."

Chu Lingyi glanced at him and turned to leave, his long shadow stretching behind him in the moonlight, looking sharp and indifferent.

Yang Xiyu didn't want to stay a second longer in this place where he had almost lost his life, so he scrambled to follow Chu Lingyi, eager to leave.

Ruan Yao peeked out from behind the tree, watching Yang Xiyu, who looked completely disoriented. He hesitated about whether or not to reveal himself.

Maybe it was better if fewer people knew about this secret.

Ruan Yao nervously thought about the cannon fodder in horror movies who were silenced after discovering a terrible secret.

While he was lost in thought, he accidentally stepped on a fallen branch.

Crunch!

The sound of the dry, brittle leaves breaking was faint but clear.

A cold, menacing blade pressed against the boy's delicate and slender neck.

"Shh, don't move, kid."

The man, wearing a mask, spoke in a muffled voice that was low and elegant, reminiscent of a top-class musician playing a double bass.

In any other situation, such a gentle and magnetic voice would have made many people swoon.

But in this situation, Ruan Yao felt nothing but terror.

Ruan Yao's eyes widened. Forced to lean against the tree trunk, he felt the cold blade pressing against his soft, smooth skin. In an instant, he saw a streak of blood running down the blade.

Less than three meters away, Chu Lingyi was waiting impatiently for Yang Xiyu to recover.

Unexpectedly, the man had not only not escaped but had circled back through the woods and caught the little creature who thought he was well-hidden.

The man's voice was filled with unconcealed pleasure as he wrapped an arm around Ruan Yao's slender waist, his masculine cologne mixing with the cold, sharp scent of metal.

Ruan Yao felt his head spinning.

The man embraced him from behind, and Ruan Yao swallowed hard, not daring to turn around.

In horror movies, people who saw the villain's true face would be killed to keep them quiet.

"If you dare touch me" Ruan Yao said, his voice trembling, his fingers digging into the rough bark of the tree "my family won't let you go."

The man chuckled and blew a breath of air against Ruan Yao's ear, enjoying the sight of the blush creeping up his white earlobe.

"Is that so? Well, I'll be waiting for them" he said nonchalantly.

Ruan Yao's fingers tightened around the tree trunk, leaving deep marks in the rough bark.

He took a deep breath and lowered his eyelashes, his cheeks still bearing the imprint of Chu Lingyi's fingers, looking both innocent and pitiful.

The man used his calloused fingertip to wipe away the mark on Ruan Yao's face, causing a sharp pain.

He wiped Ruan Yao's face until there was no trace of Chu Lingyi's fingerprints left, only large, pitiful red marks on his soft cheeks.

Ruan Yao's eyes were welling up with tears.

The man leaned down and pressed his cold glasses against Ruan Yao's cheek. He was so calm, it was as if he was whispering sweet nothings to a lover, despite the scalpel pressed against his neck.

"Don't make that expression. You can deceive them, but you can't deceive me."

Ruan Yao felt his blood run cold.

"You can't kill me" he said, forcing himself to remain calm, believing he had stumbled upon the man's secret. "I haven't seen anything. And I don't even know you."

The man seemed amused. The long, narrow eyes behind his glasses curved into a smile. "Don't know me?"

His long, pale fingers gently stroked Ruan Yao's sweaty hair. He bit Ruan Yao's earlobe and chuckled "You will soon."

"Your little boyfriend seems to be coming back."

With ease, his scalpel popped open the buttons of Ruan Yao's collar. The lustrous mother-of-pearl button fell into the man's hand.

The man leaned down and took a gentle sniff of Ruan Yao's neck, smiling. "Leaving you alone in a place like this, he's quite daring."

"Do you still want to be with someone like that?"

The man's warm breath sprayed against Ruan Yao's bare neck, making Ruan Yao feel like he was being coiled by a venomous snake, its forked tongue ready to strike at any moment.

"We'll meet again soon" he said.

A cold kiss landed on Ruan Yao's eye, causing his dark eyelashes to flutter rapidly, like a butterfly struggling to escape a net.

The oppressive feeling instantly disappeared, and Ruan Yao sprang up from the tree trunk, terrified. He covered his neck with his hands.

He panted heavily and closed his eyes, quickly trying to figure out the identity of the man in black.

From the tone of his voice, they must have met before. The man's voice was eerily familiar.

Ruan Yao's head ached. He must have heard that slow, deliberate tone somewhere before, and many times.

Who was it?

"Ruan Yao!"

Chu Lingyi, carrying a clearly distraught Yang Xiyu, returned to find Ruan Yao kneeling on the ground, his face pale and his hands covering his neck.

Alarmed, Chu Lingyi grabbed Ruan Yao's wrist "What happened to you?"

A faint scent wafted into Chu Lingyi's nostrils.

Ruan Yao's fingers, which were still trembling, clutched at Chu Lingyi's clothes. He collapsed into Chu Lingyi's arms, his body cold as ice.

Chu Lingyi immediately realized something was wrong. "Did he find you?"

Ignoring the third person present, Ruan Yao buried his face in Chu Lingyi's chest and sobbed "Don't leave me alone."

He had never shown such vulnerability in front of Chu Lingyi before. His nose was red from crying, and his eyes were bloodshot.

"I was so scared" he whimpered. "I almost died."

Ruan Yao's pale fingers clutched Chu Lingyi's coat tightly. He leaned against Chu Lingyi weakly "He had a knife, he was going to kill me."

Ignoring the shocked Yang Xiyu, Chu Lingyi picked up Ruan Yao and held him in his arms.

Ruan Yao was thin, and felt weightless in his arms.

"Don't be afraid" he said softly, as he walked along the winding path, not glancing back at Yang Xiyu. "I'm here."

He lowered his head and softly comforted the trembling boy.

But soon his gaze fixed on something.

A small white camellia was tucked into Ruan Yao's dark hair.

The full, delicate petals trembled slightly in the night breeze, the branches entangled in the boy's hair.

It looked like a fresh flower bud that had just been cut from a branch. He wondered how its owner had managed to keep it from wilting throughout the chase.

He had placed this flower in Ruan Yao's hair.

It made the already snow-white, delicate face look even more like a mischievous spirit emerging from the moonlight.

Ruan Yao seemed oblivious to Chu Lingyi's special treatment and nestled comfortably in Chu Lingyi's arms, raising his eyes to ask the stunned boy "What's wrong?"

The petals twisted into a ball in his hand, and the fragrant juice splattered on his palm.

Chu Lingyi hugged the boy expressionlessly "Nothing, I just found something dirty."

Yang Xiyu hesitated to follow, but after a while, he couldn't contain his curiosity. "You guys..."

Chu Lingyi turned to look at Yang Xiyu and smiled slightly. "As you can see"

Yang Xiyu would never forget the fear that look instilled in him for a long time. It was as if he had been firmly fixed by a pair of emotionless snake eyes. If he dared to show even a hint of desire for Ruan Yao, he was sure he would die a horrible death.
