Being a Dad in the Animal World

Bai Yi did not understand why he felt this way toward the little male lion. After all, the rogue male lion was still a male, and during their interactions there had never been any such feeling.
Even when they licked each other, he felt no unease.
When Jason licked him, however, the sensation of being treated in a gay way became extraordinarily strong.
Bai Yi began to reject Jason. He needed to find Jason a girlfriend.
If nothing else worked, he would have no choice but to kick him out; otherwise, Bai Yi would truly end up being pursued by this little male lion.
At the same time, Bai Yi’s actions appeared to the streamer and the audience as if he had already chosen someone and was unwilling to get close to other male lions.
The streamer, a young lady, expressed her helplessness and worry:
"It seems that Jason was always a step behind. In this case, arriving early is not as good as arriving at the right time. He is not Xiao Bai's destined male lion and can only watch as Xiao Bai and Dilai get intimate while he is neglected."
The messages on the live chat expressed sympathy for Jason:
"Jason is still young. In fact, I'm quite into younger partners. If Jason were the top, I would support him!"
"Dilai has already been intimate with the lionesses in the pride; before long, his cubs will be born. How can he still desire Xiao Bai? Indeed, one cannot judge animals by human moral standards. If it were among humans, he'd have been condemned long ago"
"Dilai is pretty scummy. This male lion has five wives. If it weren't for one of them busy raising three cubs, she would probably have been his as well. I bet Xiao Bai and Jason won't stay in this pride for long. Dilai's threat is too great; all the lionesses belong to him."
"Still, Dilai likes Xiao Bai, so he probably won't harm him. As for Jason, that's not certain. Before long, even if Xiao Bai does not expel him, Dilai will not tolerate his presence."
It must be said that the audience's analysis was very insightful; Bai Yi had thought of these consequences as well.
In view of Jason's abnormal behavior, Bai Yi was more troubled than anyone.
The lionesses in the pride had already become pregnant with Dilai's cubs.
In less than four months, these females would give birth, and for the cubs’ safety, Dilai would surely take actions unfavorable to both Bai Yi and Jason.
Moreover, four months later the long rainy season in Maasai Mara would end and give way to the dry season. Herbivores would migrate toward places with water and food, and by then the pride would have to follow suit.
Otherwise, in the dry season when food and water were scarce, they would starve.
By that time, Bai Yi would part ways with this pride and separate from the stray male lions, while Jason officially entered sub-adulthood.
With his regal appearance just beginning to form, he would be able to venture out and survive on his own.
Additionally, the three cubs were about one year old and could accompany him on long journeys.
So Bai Yi was not afraid. When the time came that he could no longer rely on others, he would continue to struggle on with the three cubs.
Raising the three little ones to sub-adulthood would also mark his entry into midlife.
Just like the rogue male lions now, perhaps around eight years old, although still strong, their stamina was clearly not as good as that of younger lions.
Wild lions typically live about 10 to 15 years, and Bai Yi was already five. With only a few good years left to raise the three cubs, time was not on his side.
The spots on the three cubs were gradually fading.
Lion cubs are born with spots resembling leopard patterns.
These spots evolved as a means of camouflage in their natural environment, for cubs are too weak to protect themselves. As they grow older, the spots slowly fade.
The spots on Jason had already completely disappeared.
To easily tell the three cubs apart, Bai Yi had mentally given each of them a name.
The two male cubs were named Gou Dan and Wang Cai.
Gou Dan was very mischievous, enjoying chasing after all sorts of flies and mosquitoes and never giving anyone peace of mind.
Wang Cai liked chasing after Gou Dan, although he did not dare to run far because of his timid nature.
The only female cub was named Isa.
Isa loved to be with Bai Yi; wherever Bai Yi went, she would follow.
Bai Yi thought to himself that this child bride was too obedient. In the future, she was bound to be a gentle wife who would serve her lion husband well.
Bai Yi was overly partial to Isa and always gave her the best food first. This was also why Isa loved to follow Bai Yi around.
It was not long before the three little ones began weaning. They no longer chased after their lioness mother for milk and preferred meat instead.
Because the cubs had stopped nursing, the lioness mother realized they were not her own and soon entered her estrus.
Bai Yi had been considering that this sole lioness would become the wife of a rogue male lion.
An unexpected event, however, occurred.
The lioness mother forbade the rogue male lion from touching her and even fought with him, causing Dilai to suffer a nosebleed.
Hearing the commotion, Bai Yi went to see what was happening and found Dilai returning in defeat, with blood still streaming from his nose.
Bai Yi and Jason, the two lions, looked at the defeated Dilai with blank expressions, their hearts full of questions.
Bai Yi wondered whether lion mates still choose their partners based on appearance.
Soon, his idea was confirmed.
It turned out that in the eyes of the lioness mother, Bai Yi was the true king of the pride and the only male lion worthy of being her mate.
For this reason, she played hard to get with Bai Yi by seducing him and then keeping her distance, attempting to win him over.
However, Bai Yi remained indifferent. He watched as the lioness mother played joyfully with him and silently complained inside.
He thought, I know my charm is impressive. At this moment, I really cannot make a move.
He felt both extremely guilty and anxious; if he remained indifferent, what might the lioness mother do?
He did not know and could only wait and see.
The lioness mother, seeing that Bai Yi was not taking the bait, grew somewhat angry.
Since Bai Yi was the king of the pride, she dared not act too boldly. She had no choice but to put away her tactics and obediently lie in Bai Yi’s resting area, waiting for him to come.
Not far away, Dilai watched. He understood deep down that she was Bai Yi’s lioness, yet he could not resist wanting to give it a try.
Seeing that Bai Yi made no move, Dilai rose and tested the waters once again.
Bai Yi and Jason lay not far away, watching as Dilai climbed onto the lioness mother’s back and bit her neck.
The lioness mother did not resist this time, although the pain was obvious and intense.
She let out low roars and occasionally turned around, attempting to bite Dilai.
Dilai was, after all, a male lion with great strength, and her resistance was not enough to shake him off.
Bai Yi and Jason both witnessed a live display of lion behavior.
Perhaps driven by his animal instincts, he once again witnessed the rise of his little brother.
Feeling embarrassed, Bai Yi got up and left.
He thought that Jason had shown little reaction, but soon after he had gone a short distance, he discovered that Jason had followed him.
Bai Yi began sprinting wildly; he could not let Jason see him in this state. That little creature was not a good lion at all!
Bai Yi ran to the riverbank, where a herd of buffalo was grazing and drinking. His sudden appearance startled them, and the herd became agitated as they ran wildly onto the shore.
Bai Yi was not there to hunt. He plunged directly into the river, and the cool water quickly soothed the agitation in his body.
He cursed inwardly, Damn it, even as an animal I have such instincts. Isn’t that outrageous?
It was the second time he had been led on by the lioness. Could it be that these lionesses were doing it deliberately?
In a state of extreme frustration, Bai Yi swam around in the water for a while, inadvertently alerting a crocodile.
A pair of evil eyes fixed on him, and Bai Yi felt a chill run down his spine.
Suddenly, Jason let out a loud roar from the shore, and Bai Yi quickly made his way onto the bank.
Once on shore, he discovered that a crocodile was following him.
He shuddered and hurriedly ran away.
Jason just stood there watching him. Bai Yi walked over to Jason without even offering a greeting.
Jason tried to nuzzle him, but Bai Yi dodged. Jason quickly increased his pace and ran back to the resting area.
Dilai's round of sprinting was over. The lioness mother and the lionesses were nowhere to be seen; they must have gone hunting.
Bai Yi lay in the resting area. When Isa saw him return, she hurried over to play with him.
She rolled on the ground, exposing her furry, cute belly, while her two front paws swiped wildly in front of Bai Yi's eyes.
Bai Yi licked her little head. The little one was delighted.
Jason, trailing behind, was extremely envious.
He could not understand why, even though they were born of the same mother, why his brother did not like him.
^Jason and Isa were born from the same mother, so why does Bai Yi only like Isa.
He walked over and nudged Isa with his paw, and in a few rolls the little one tumbled out of Bai Yi's resting area.
Seeing that Isa had been pushed aside, Jason lay in front of Bai Yi, extending his head and lowering it as he waited to be licked.
Bai Yi: "......"
He thought about swiping his paw to show him the treachery of a lion's heart, but after raising his front paw he did not strike—instead, he merely patted his head.
Good.
At that moment, Isa ran back. This time she lay on top of Bai Yi, her two sparkling eyes gazing at her older brother Jason in confusion as she softly called out.
It was as if she were saying that her brother was so annoying.
Seeing that Isa had returned, Jason clearly looked unhappy. He shifted forward, pressing his head against Bai Yi's neck as he rested against his mane.
Bai Yi felt extremely conflicted. He glanced up at the sun above and then at the pair of siblings vying for his attention beside him, and he let out a heavy sigh.
Jason began licking Bai Yi's fur. This time Bai Yi did not resist, as he was terribly bothered by the flies and mosquitoes.
Noticing his lack of resistance, Jason became bolder, increasing the pressure of his licking.
Bai Yi found the licking pleasurable. He lay on the ground with his noble lion head resting on the grass, squinting in contentment as he enjoyed Jason's caresses.
When Isa saw her brother licking Bai Yi, she wanted some too. She approached and used her two little paws to pat her brother's face. Her brother glanced at her and licked her little paws.
Dilai, who had been squinting at the scene for a while, unexpectedly got up and joined this strange group.
Jason positioned himself on the left and Dilai on the right; the two male lions began to lick Bai Yi's fur in unison.
Jason gave Dilai a hostile look and emitted a warning low growl.
Bai Yi sensed something was off. He opened his eyes, raised his head, and looked to the right, there he saw Dilai joining in on the fun.
Bai Yi glanced at Jason again and saw that he was filled with hostility toward Dilai. Even while his mouth was busy, he did not forget to warn Dilai.
It was as if Dilai had trespassed on Jason's territory.
Bai Yi: "?"
Seriously?
