Chapter 68

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail

[Quick Transmigration]

Ruan Yao spent the entire night studying Yan Hui’s intricate script, reading until his vision blurred with golden stars.

The story followed Jiang Ze, a criminal investigator who went undercover as a private tutor in the home of the wealthiest man in the city.

His mission was to uncover clues about a murder case, but in the process, he stumbled upon a shocking secret.

Ruan Yao’s role was the second male lead, Ning Zhen, the tycoon’s nephew.

Timid and frail, Ning Zhen had lost both parents at an early age and was taken in by his uncle, Ning Yiwei.

Unfortunately, his uncle was a twisted man who harbored an unhealthy obsession with his own foster sister, Ning Zhen’s mother.

After her untimely death, Ning Yiwei, driven by dark and perverse desires, adopted the boy who was barely five years old at the time.

From childhood, Ning Zhen was subtly conditioned to imitate his mother in every way.

The indoctrination left him with severe gender identity confusion, making him believe he was meant to be a girl.

He developed an inescapable love for his tutor, Jiang Ze, and ultimately gave himself to him without reservation.

The two joined forces to unravel the sinister mystery Ning Yiwei had buried for thirteen years.

By the time Ruan Yao reached this part, he could no longer stop his lips from twitching.

The tangled mess of relationships was something that could very well secure the film an international award.

To preserve the story’s tragic nature, Ning Zhen, overwhelmed by despair after uncovering the truth, chose to set himself and the sins of the Ning family ablaze.

Jiang Ze barely escaped with his life but was left with PTSD. Anything that reminded him of Ning Zhen would send him spiraling into madness.

In a rare act of mercy, Yan Hui opted for an open ending.

Jiang Ze, no longer a police officer, opened a small, quiet music shop tucked away in an obscure corner of the city. Business was slow, and most of his days passed in a silence that felt almost unnatural.

One day, long after everything had ended, the wind chime above the shop’s door rang unexpectedly as Jiang Ze dozed behind the counter.

He lazily opened his eyes and saw a boy who looked exactly like Ning Zhen step into the sunlit store, smiling as if nothing had ever changed.

Whether that moment was real or just a hallucination was left to the audience’s imagination.

By the time Ruan Yao finished reading, two tears had already slipped down his face.

“This is brutal” The sentimental system and its equally emotional host clung to each other, weeping for the heartbreak of a love too beautiful to last.

The story itself was solid. The problem was that it contained a lot of scenes where Ning Zhen seduced Jiang Ze, including some truly shameful things.

On top of that, because of his gender identity issues, there were plenty of moments where he dressed as a woman.

Ruan Yao felt like he had seen this setup somewhere before.

The system drily commented "Just think of it as dedicating yourself to the arts"

That was fair. If he didn’t even have this level of dedication, he might as well give up being cannon fodder and go home to farm.

Ruan Yao let out a sigh, curling into a ball like a lifeless salted fish.

If he was going to act, the first step was to dye that ridiculous blue hair of his back to its original black.

When he found a hair salon, he hadn’t expected the stylist to recognize him instantly.

"Wait… are you Ruan Yao?" The hairstylist, a young man, stared at him excitedly, looking like he wanted to grab his hand but didn’t dare to. "I'm a huge fan of yours"

It was clear he had noticed the mask and knew Ruan Yao didn’t want to be recognized. Still, he couldn’t suppress his excitement and whispered, "I’ve been following you since the very first episode of Chasing Light. I’ll love your singing for the rest of my life"

A longtime fan. Ruan Yao blinked in surprise.

"I don’t know what happened to you later, but I’ll always believe in you!" The guy looked like he was about to cry, his eyes shimmering with emotion.

For a moment, Ruan Yao was stunned. Then he flashed a breathtaking smile "Thank you"

He truly hadn’t expected that, even after being semi-blacklisted for so long, there were still people out there waiting for his return with such unwavering devotion.

Since that was the case, there was no way he could let this opportunity slip through his fingers.

He had to play Ning Zhen to perfection. He had to climb to the top of the entertainment industry.

When Ruan Yao, now with jet-black hair, stood in front of Pei Xinan and Qin Shuang, both of them felt a fleeting sense of disorientation.

He was stunning.

Compared to blue, this shade of deep black like the endless night, suited his porcelain pale skin far better.

The delicate features of his face, like strokes of ink on a painting, became even more breathtaking against the contrast.

For just a moment, Qin Shuang finally understood why Pei Xinan and Sheng Yirong had lost their minds over him, doing so many things that defied all logic.

If he smiled at her like that, she might willingly give up everything, too.

A thought surfaced in her mind out of nowhere. Beauty means being able to do whatever you want. If you can't, you're just not beautiful enough.

But beauty this extreme was bound to invite disaster. Without enough power, it was best not to get too close.

Qin Shuang sighed, feeling strangely wistful.

"Why’d you dye it back?" Pei Xinan pressed Ruan Yao against the door of the recording studio, twirling a strand of his hair between his fingers.

Ruan Yao’s eyes curved into crescent moons, a playful smile dancing on his lips. The floating light in his warm amber eyes rippled like a lake at sunset. "You don’t like it?"

He had long since removed his mask, and those fiery red lips moved temptingly in Pei Xinan’s eyes.

He wanted to kiss him.

Pei Xinan had never felt such an intense urge before.

To ruin those lips with a kiss.

He always acted on his desires without hesitation.

Ruan Yao barely had time to let out a short, sharp cry before he was pulled into a firm embrace, his lips seized with a near-brutal force.

Pei Xinan first bit down lightly on the soft, jelly-like flesh of Ruan Yao’s lips before his tongue impatiently pried past his teeth.

Ruan Yao had intended to hold his ground, but Pei Xinan pinched his cheek, and his snow-white teeth involuntarily parted.

A boy who had been suppressing his hunger for so long, once he gave in to his darkest desires, there was no turning back.

Ruan Yao felt like his tongue was going numb from the intensity.

Saliva slipped past his lips, dampening the flushed red flesh, making him look even more sinful and alluring.

A thin, glistening string of silver connected their lips before pooling into an indulgent trace at the hollow of his throat.

Pei Xinan’s eyes darkened.

He wanted to mark him, taint him a little more. He wanted his scent to cover him completely, to leave traces all over his body, so the whole world would know that Ruan Yao belonged to Pei Xinan alone.

“I really like this” Pei Xinan whispered, breathless. His voice had always been sexy, but hearing it like this, panting softly against his ear, made Ruan Yao’s heart pound uncontrollably “You look beautiful like this, YaoYao”

He pressed a soft kiss to Ruan Yao’s burning ear.

Ruan Yao was so dazed from the kiss that he almost forgot what he had wanted to say.

Tilting his face slightly, he met Pei Xinan’s gaze “Aren’t you curious why I dyed it back?”

For an artist to change their look, there were only a handful of reasons. A vein pulsed on Pei Xinan’s arm “You got a job?”

Ruan Yao grinned mischievously and boldly wrapped his arms around Pei Xinan’s neck, his voice full of pride. “Yan Hui invited me to play the second male lead in his new film, City Without Love

His light-colored eyes hooked onto Pei Xinan’s already shaky composure, and as if that weren’t enough, he wrapped his legs around Pei Xinan’s waist like a lazy koala “I said yes”

Pei Xinan’s breath grew heavier, the restraint making the veins at his temples bulge. “Yan Hui is trash”

Ruan Yao chuckled indifferently. “I know”

Everyone said film sets were hotspots for love affairs. If not, how else would you have caught me cheating?

“System, what’s Pei Xinan’s disgust level at right now?”

“According to the emotional scan, the protagonist’s disgust level toward you remains stable at fifty”

Completely unacceptable.

Even after the system upgrade, the same old flaw remained. Hatred and corruption were still lumped together as mere negative emotions.

Ruan Yao wasn’t sure if he would ever get the chance to learn the difference between being despised and being truly broken.

“By the way, why don’t you just remove the tracking system from your phone?” the system suddenly asked, puzzled by the contradiction of Ruan Yao trying to escape Sheng Yirong while still keeping the tracker active.

Ruan Yao drawled lazily “It still has its uses”

He was about to launch into an elaborate explanation of his brilliant plan when Pei Xinan suddenly tightened his grip around him.

“Pei Xinan! What are you doing?” Ruan Yao yelped, his voice rising in alarm.

Pei Xinan pinned him down against the broad office desk. A pile of densely written music scores and lyrics crumpled beneath him.

Sheets of paper filled with Pei Xinan’s blood, sweat, and tears now bore the imprint of the delicate beauty he had been yearning for.

“Just experiencing a little office romance” Pei Xinan murmured, locking down all four of Ruan Yao’s limbs. A bead of sweat dripped from his temple, landing precisely on Ruan Yao’s exposed stomach.

His skin was pale, untouched by training or hard muscle, soft like a delicate snow mochi. How could someone look so appetizing from head to toe?

And he felt even better to the touch. Pei Xinan didn’t want to let go.

“You were so bold just now, clinging to me like that” Pei Xinan lifted Ruan Yao’s chin, a sharp glint flickering in his eyes. “Scared now?”

Ruan Yao held onto his immunity token and played dumb. "You said you wouldn’t bully me!"

Pei Xinan, shameless as ever, squeezed himself between Ruan Yao’s legs. "Just rubbing a little. That doesn’t count as bullying, does it?"
