Chapter 37

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail

[Quick Transmigration]

Ruan Yao clutched at the fabric over his chest, his pale fingers wrinkling the cloth as a faint line of delicate snow showed on his chest.

Gu Jin... wasn't much better than a ghost.

Ruan Yao's eyes shimmered with tears. He covered his chest with trembling hands and whispered softly "Why are you here? You can't do this to me"

He had no idea why Gu Jin would appear here. For a moment, he was utterly lost, as if his soul had scattered.

Meanwhile, Gu Jin's calloused palm lightly, almost playfully, rubbed against him. Yet the act was deceptively soft, as it firmly held him in place, leaving no room for escape.

If he struggled even slightly, Gu Jin would press harder on his protruding spine.

It was as though Gu Jin was teasing a trembling little kitten.

Leaning close to the pink tip of Ruan Yao's ear, Gu Jin's malicious laughter spilled out. "What's the matter? I'm the old man's son. This is my home. Why wouldn't I come here?"

"Or have you already started seeing yourself as the master of this house, planning to drive out anyone with the Gu surname?"

Ruan Yao hadn't meant that at all.

Gu Jin was simply determined to see him uncomfortable. The more embarrassed Ruan Yao got, the more satisfied Gu Jin became.

After all, how dare Ruan Yao use him as a stepping stone?

Ruan Yao, in this state, was even more captivating than during his former, affected moments. Gu Jin ran his hand along the thin, delicate curve of Ruan Yao's spine, vertebra by vertebra, like a string of beautifully arranged jade stones.

It was almost enough to make someone believe he was genuinely innocent.

A mocking smile tugged at Gu Jin's lips. "What's this? It's not like we haven't done this before. Who are you trying to fool with that expression?"

He was lying.

Ruan Yao still retained his past memories. While the original body had lived by deceiving men for money, in order to keep his gender a secret, he never allowed any overly intimate interactions with men.

Even in his male persona when dealing with Gu Jin, Ruan Yao had always kept their interactions minimal.

This rule was enforced by the Time-Space Traversal Bureau to prevent travelers from behaving too out-of-character (OOC). The so-called "original host" was essentially a fragment of the traveler’s consciousness left behind in the world.

Thus, the habits and personality of the original host were designed to closely align with the traveler’s, modifying their behavior to fit the role.

In other words, every world’s original host was a fragment of Ruan Yao's consciousness split off from him.

But after Ruan Yao crossed into this world, that fragment had reintegrated into his body.

Ruan Yao subconsciously feared this kind of integration, so the original host would absolutely never engage in any kind of physical intimacy with the male lead.

The calloused palm brushed over the back of his neck, sending a wave of goosebumps up his spine. The tingling sensation made Ruan Yao squirm, and he couldn’t suppress a soft gasp.

But he quickly realized his mistake, his cheeks flushing crimson as he bit his lip tightly, refusing to make another sound.

He knew Gu Jin wouldn’t let him off so easily.

In his mental space, Ruan Yao started counting on his fingers and talking to the system. "After earning that last achievement, we exchanged it for 10,000 points. We used up half for a month's vacation. There's still a good amount left"

It was more than he had ever had before.

Enduring Gu Jin’s increasingly invasive actions, Ruan Yao gritted his teeth and said "I want to exchange for a Sensory Blocker. I suspect Gu Jin is planning to do something awful to my body"

There was no need to suspect. He absolutely would.

"Confirm exchange of 1,000 points for a Sensory Blocker?"

"Confirmed"

Ruan Yao shivered as Gu Jin pinned him down onto the soft cushion. The light from the crystal chandelier was so bright that Ruan Yao could barely open his eyes. His long lashes drooped like a curtain, half-covering his amber-like eyes, which seemed to glisten with a drunken allure, brimming with an intoxicating charm.

The corners of his eyes were flushed with a vivid, almost lustful red.

Gu Jin had originally planned to strip him and teach him a lesson.

But for some inexplicable reason, seeing those shimmering tears made him hesitate.

A large hand covered Ruan Yao's eyes, feeling the faint flutter of his lashes brushing against the palm. "Shh, don't cry" Gu Jin said softly.

"Do you have any idea how I’ve been living out there?"

"A stray dog, worse than a mutt" Gu Jin's voice was cold, laced with bitter resentment. "How could you be so heartless, Ruan Yao? Where’s your heart? Hm?"

Ruan Yao thought to himself that he was nothing more than a peach blossom tree. Of course, he didn’t have a heart.

But this wasn’t the time to argue. He didn’t dare to speak, and even the tears of submission he shed were all absorbed into the man's broad palm.

Gu Jin was truly losing his mind.

Ruan Yao's slender fingers clung to the muscled arm of the man pinning him down. His dress had fallen completely off, leaving him trembling. He couldn’t suppress the sobs in his voice any longer, but he dared not cry out too loudly, fearing his current state would attract others. In a soft, pitiful voice, he warned Gu Jin "Go away. Don’t touch me"

Gu Jin hadn’t initially planned to do anything to Ruan Yao. His feelings for Ruan Yao had long been worn down by the latter's coldness, not to mention he had only ever been infatuated with Ruan Yao’s face.

But now that he was back, why did Ruan Yao seem so different from how he remembered?

Why did he look so pitiful?

He didn’t even know how to put up a proper fight, only clinging feebly to the man's arm and pitifully pleading for mercy.

Afraid of angering him, Ruan Yao didn’t even dare to let his tears flow freely. They pooled silently in his reddened eyes, glistening like a frightened deer’s. When the tears finally spilled over, they soaked his flushed cheeks in silence.

Would it look even better if he completely broke down?

Gu Jin’s gaze fell on the flower vase behind Ruan Yao. It was filled with fresh flowers delivered that very day.

He plucked a white rose from the vase. Its stem seemed meticulously trimmed, free of visible thorns.

Gu Jin didn’t notice that a faint sense of pity for Ruan Yao had crept into his heart.

He forced the stem of the white rose between Ruan Yao's lips. His soft, flushed lips were now compelled to hold the rose. The delicate petals brushed gently against Ruan Yao's cheek.

Now, Ruan Yao couldn’t speak.

Lying on the cushion, he could only stare up at the ceiling. On the nearby table sat a framed photograph of his so-called late husband.

The air was filled with the acrid yet meditative aroma of burning incense sticks. The mingling sensations were driving Ruan Yao to the brink of madness.

"I’ve decided" Ruan Yao thought furiously. Gu Jin was a complete scoundrel. He didn’t want to be bullied by him anymore. "If he dares to touch me, I’ll kick him in the balls"

The system wholeheartedly agreed, firmly standing by its host's resolve to protect his dignity.

“So beautiful, Yao Yao. The rose suits you perfectly” Gu Jin murmured, almost entranced. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to the lips holding the rose’s stem. "I’ve changed my mind. If you stay with me, I’ll let you go"

Ruan Yao shot him a look that said, You’re dreaming.

"Don’t tell me you’ve really fallen in love with that old geezer?" Gu Jin teased, his voice dripping with mockery.

Gu Jin pinched his chubby cheeks, and the trembling rose looked as if it were about to fall apart.

Ruan Yao's long dress had entirely slid down to his ankles, revealing the elegant, pristine curves of his figure, soft and undulating like gentle mountain peaks.

A thorn that hadn't been entirely trimmed off pierced his tender lips. A faint line of crimson seeped out from his pale pink lips, slowly gathering into a small droplet at the hollow of his delicate chin.

The sudden pain startled Ruan Yao. His eyes became even more misty with unshed tears.

Unable to hold the flower in his mouth any longer, the rose dropped to the ground, its petals and leaves piling up into a small heap. The stem, slender and covered in a glistening sheen, lay discarded among the mess.

Ruan Yao took shallow breaths, his voice trembling "It hurts so much."

The hand pressing on his waist paused slightly as Gu Jin's gaze landed on Ruan Yao's lips, now tinged with the red of blood.

Frustration finally boiled over in Ruan Yao, and he spoke with uncharacteristic defiance "I hate you. Get away from me"

Even when angry, he looked adorable, his brows furrowed tightly. Though clearly distressed, he tried to put on a fierce front that only made him seem more pitiful.

Gu Jin, oddly enough, couldn't bring himself to continue his mischief.

"Where did you learn these little tricks?" He pinched Ruan Yao's cheek again. "You really won't consider staying with me?"

"Gu Rongming isn’t a good person. If he takes power, the first thing he'll do is get rid of you"

He emphasized "get rid of" a choice of words that made Ruan Yao immediately think of something terrible, like being silenced permanently.

Ruan Yao snapped back "That would still be better than being with you"

It was more like a childish tantrum, really.

Gu Jin, surprisingly, wasn’t offended. He let out a cold chuckle. "Don't believe me? Just wait and see. You'll learn soon enough whether Gu Rongming is more terrifying than me"

Leaning down, he whispered menacingly into Ruan Yao's ear "If I ever catch you in Gu Rongming's bed, I will kill you."

"Don’t betray me a second time, Yao Yao."

A second time? What did he mean by a second time? Why did this man always insist on making up his own narratives?

Still, judging by the situation, it seemed Ruan Yao wouldn’t need to use the sensory disruptor or the life-destroying kick he had mentally prepared.

Not being able to ruin Gu Jin's future lineage left Ruan Yao with an odd, inexplicable sense of regret.

For some reason, Gu Jin seemed to lose his momentum. Whatever the reason, Ruan Yao managed to escape unscathed. His fingers fumbled to adjust the mess of his dress.

He tied the ribbon in haste, making a poor job of it.

Gu Jin appeared to grow impatient. "Let me do it. Your hands are useless."

Ruan Yao covered his neck defensively, his wariness on full display. He wouldn’t let Gu Jin come near him.

"There are police coming tomorrow to ask questions. You’d better go back and get ready" Ruan Yao said, lowering his gaze to avoid Gu Jin’s predatory stare.

Gu Jin, with his aura of hostility, looked no different from a murderer.

If he wasn’t already a murderer, he’d surely become some kind of violent criminal.

A perverted lunatic, through and through.

In this advanced world, Ruan Yao not only had to play the role of a malicious supporting character but also carried a primary mission: to uncover the culprit behind Gu Rongzhang’s death.

Ruan Yao glanced sideways at Gu Jin, suddenly struck by an idea.

Gu Jin watched as the delicate, pitiful young man sniffed softly, his long, dense lashes veiling eyes that gradually deepened in intensity.

"I have the will your father left behind. Isn't the reason you returned just to claim the position of family head?"

The horizon was gradually brightening, the sky turning a pale gray, heralding the arrival of dawn.

Ruan Yao’s hair was disheveled, soft curls framing his slender, fair neck, like a seductive enchantress hidden in the shadows of the night. “Find the murderer, and the will is yours” he said.

Author's Note:

Gu Jin: Using nothing but overthinking and my preference for good looks, I managed to self-complete an advanced journey from hatred to love.

Ruan Yao: This guy is a lunatic.

Why is today’s update so short? Because I just realized I have to take the CET-6 exam, haha. This might be my 100th time going in unprepared (^_^).

I’m sorry, my dear readers!
